Frequently Asked Questions

I am currently up to date on my Covid vaccinations (two initial doses plus all subsequent offered boosters for which I’m eligible) and will wear a mask at consultation and installation visits during period of high community spread and/or if a customer requests it. Please contact Babyproofing Pittsburgh to reschedule visit if you or any member of your household was exposed to a Covid+ individual within 5 days of your scheduled visit, has any symptoms of illness or is feeling unwell. This would include ALL illnesses (i.e. colds, stomach virus) as well. Depending on the circumstances, I may choose to wear a mask for visit rather than rescheduling. Thank you in advance for your honesty and cooperation with this policy to protect your family's health and safety as well as mine.

Our territory includes anywhere within a 30 mile radius of our South Hills headquarters. If you are located outside of our service territory, we may offer consultation and installation visits with an additional fee added for time/travel; the fee is based on how far outside of the territory you are located and will be assessed on an individual basis.

Our normal operating hours are Mon-Fri, 9 am – 6 pm. For clients who both work full-time on weekdays and have limited flexibility to schedule a consult on a weekday (avg. time for a Full Consult is 45-90 minutes), we will do our best to work with you to schedule a consult at a mutually convenient time as soon as possible, but you may have a longer wait to schedule a consultation. Consult fees will be significantly more for any week-night or weekend consultations. Please contact BPP for more information. Installations are done on weekdays only, so mutually agreeable arrangements will need to be made ahead of time if you cannot be home during a scheduled installation.

It is recommended that you childproof your home shortly before your child starts to crawl. This developmental milestone varies, but is generally somewhere around 6 months. Ideally, it is best to begin the process at least a month ahead of this projected milestone in order to allow for the professional childproofing process to be completed; lead times from initial contact to installation range on average from 2-6 weeks.

Most installation jobs are completed within hours or in one full day’s work. If your job is on the larger side, two or three days may be scheduled in case needed. Estimated timeframes for installation will be listed at the bottom of each estimate.

Total cost for professionally childproofing a home varies widely, depending on what your particular home child safety needs are and what you choose to buy and/or have installed out of the recommendations made after your consult. The majority of childproofing jobs fall within the $400-$1,600 range total for materials plus installation.

The consult and estimate will be the best indicator of the cost to professionally childproof your home. Babyproofing Pittsburgh will work with you to provide the products and services that best meet the needs of your home, family life, circumstances, and preferences in the most convenient timeframe possible.

Installations may also be spread out in stages if that’s what works best for you and your family. Be aware that if work is elected to be spread out, a travel fee ($25 per visit) will be applied for any additional visits beyond the initial visits that are estimated to be needed from the initial consult. In other words, if it is estimated that one visit is needed for your work to be completed and you prefer it to be done in 3 stages (visits) instead, then two $25 travel fees will be applied for the two added visits. If two visits were estimated for the work based on your initial consult and you split it up into two visits spread months apart, no additional travel fees are added.

We will always recommend what we know will likely work best from our experience and expertise in the field, but we are flexible and not pushy in our approach; you decide what you want or don’t want, and should you decide to use our installation services, our job is to get the childproofing work done well and in a timely manner. We have childproofed well over a thousand homes since 2000 and pride ourselves on our professionalism, quality work and large customer referral base of satisfied past and repeat clients.

Consultations: Allow 1-3 weeks, but generally consults can be scheduled anywhere between 1 day to 2 weeks of when you initially contact Babyproofing Pittsburgh.

Installations: Allow 1-4 weeks from the time you approve a final estimate until your installation is completed. This allows for products not in stock to be ordered and a mutually agreeable installation date to be scheduled. If all items are in stock, it is possible that your installation can occur as quickly as the next day or up to 1-2 weeks, depending on scheduling availability. With rare exceptions, installations begin in the morning and go until finished. Larger jobs may require more than one day of installation.

Babyproofing Pittsburgh prides itself on its professionalism, customer service and commitment to child safety and best practices in installing child safety products. Because we install products that have proven to be reliable and of high quality within our industry, we are able to guarantee our work. If you purchased a product from us that we also installed, and it isn't working properly, we will repair or replace it at no charge provided that it has been used in the manner for which it was designed and within one year of purchase. If the timeframe falls outside of one year or is related to normal wear and tear, we will still come out and assess situation on individual basis to ensure you continue to have a quality safety product that meets your needs. Because of our good working relationship with product manufacturers, we can typically solve customer product issues easier and at less cost than would be possible for consumers buying and installing themselves.

No. The consult fee is a separate fee from any products or installation the customer may or may not decide to purchase.

Yes; that is entirely up to you. Just remember that the child safety products are only effective for their purpose of child safety when properly installed and our guarantee only applies to products bought from and installed by Babyproofing Pittsburgh.

Possibly. Not all child safety devices available on the market are created equally. We use only products that have proven to meet our high standards for quality and reliability, based on our knowledge and expertise of nearly two decades working in the childproofing field. We would be happy to install products you have previously purchased if, from our experience and judgment, they meet our high standards. However, please note that we will charge more to install products you buy elsewhere, and our guarantee only applies to products bought from and installed by Babyproofing Pittsburgh.

Cash or checks are preferred methods of payment, but Babyproofing Pittsburgh also accepts credit cards, PayPal (kim@babyproofingpgh.com) or Venmo (@Babyproofing-Pittsburgh) for your convenience.
